The Margao Municipal Council on Monday constituted the Statutory committees, including the Standing Committee and the Subjects Committee in an election that saw the opposition Congress and BJP-backed councillors staying away from the process.
At the meeting chaired by Chairperson Pooja Naik, the Standing Committee and Subjects Committee, consisting of the Market Committee and Sanitation Committee were constituted. Elections for the two committees were declared unopposed with the ruling group nominating its members on the two panels with the opposition group declining the offers made by the ruling body.
The Standing Committee comprises of members Peter Fernandes, Glen Andrade, Zita Crasto, Terrence Barbosa and Babita Prabhudesai.
The four-member Market Committee comprises of councillors Angelis Pereira, Kutbuddin, Raju Shirodkar and Jose Fernandes. The council has already decided that the MMC Vice-Chairperson Tito Cardozo will be the chairperson of the market panel.
Councillors Angelis Pereira, Lyndon Pereira, Terrence Barbosa, Jose Fernandes and Kutbuddin are all members of the Sanitation and Garbage committee.
