MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council will take a call on lodging FIR against the erring LDC in the misappropriation case on Tuesday since the employee has conveyed to the civic officials about his willingness to pay another installment of the dues.
However, it could not be confirmed how much amount has the LDC offered to pay to the civic body on Tuesday.
Of the total amount of Rs 17.44 lakh, the employee had on Friday deposited an amount of Rs 3 lakh in the Municipal treasury, which prompted the Margao Municipal officials to keep on hold the decision to lodge FIR against the employee.
In fact, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar had on Friday said that his office has sent the draft FIR copy to the Municipal lawyer for vetting before a formal complaint is lodged with the police.
However, with the LDC depositing in the Municipal treasury an amount of Rs 3 lakh and has now sent feelers that he would settle the dues on Tuesday, sources in the civic body informed that the FIR with the police will not be filed at least till Tuesday to allow the employee to clear the balance dues.
Meanwhile, expressing shock that the Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council Damodar Shirodkar and the Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar tried to pass the blame on others, Congress leader and ZP member Michelle Rebelo said they had no answers on why official police complaint was not launched even after two weeks since the fraud took place.
Suspecting the involvement of some senior politicians as well as senior staff of Margao Municipal Council in the financial scam, Michelle said the conspicuous silence of the MLA on this issue also raises questions.
