MMC needs dedicated full-term CO: BJP state executive member

VASCO
BJP State Executive Member and Vasco-based businessman Chandrakant Gawas on Tuesday demanded a dedicated chief officer for the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) for an entire term, to ensure the stability of the council and welfare of residents in the port town.

“I have written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik to have a dedicated chief officer who will pursue recovery of outstanding dues so that strikes by MMC workers are not repeated again and people are not inconvenienced,” Gawas told reporters.

“We have a lot of installations and organisations like the port, navy, Goa Shipyard Limited and other corporates which can generate revenue for the council, but with an absence of a dedicated chief officer, this will not be possible.”

“Many chief officers at MMC have changed recently. It is necessary that the MMC chief officer is given a minimum of a 5-year term. The DMA must also follow up on recoveries and targets must be allotted so that recoveries can be initiated in quick time," said Gawas.
