Ahead of the hearing in the High Court on Margao Municipal Council’s controversial LDCs recruitment case on Monday, a petitioner who has challenged the recruitment process has complained that she received threats from a caller.

The petitioner has lodged a complaint with the Cuncolim police alleging that she was abused and threatened by the caller.

Cuncolim police informed that the police have initiated an inquiry into the complaint, adding that appropriate action will be taken after the probe.

The lady petitioner along with a Margao Municipal staffer had challenged the MMC recruitment process on a host of grounds. The MMC has been served the notice for hearing of the matter scheduled on Monday.

Meanwhile, NGO Madganvcho Awaaz has strongly condemned the alleged threat call made to a lady petitioner from Bhiunsa, Cuncolim, who has challenged the recruitment process of the Margao Municipal Council before the High Court.

Youth Leader Prabhav Naik termed the incident “deeply disturbing” and demanded immediate and strict police action against those responsible.

Reacting to the complaint filed by the petitioner, who was allegedly threatened over a phone call for approaching the High Court, Prabhav said that intimidation tactics will not silence voices seeking transparency. “Threatening a citizen for seeking justice is an attack on democracy and the rule of law,” he stated.

He reiterated that the recruitment process of the Margao Municipal Council has been under a cloud for several months. He said that any attempt to pressurise or harass the petitioner only strengthens suspicion about irregularities and misuse of power in the selection process.
