MMC sanitation raises a stink

Sewage water from toilet block overflows, emanates foul odour

MMC sanitation raises a stink

MARGAO
Sanitation came back to haunt the Margao Municipal Council again. If the MMC ladies wash room had hit the news last week over the absence of security and privacy for the women folk, sewage water from the toilet block was overflowing onto the Municipal building passage, emanating foul odour on Thursday evening.

In fact, the sewage water overflowing from the toilet chamber found its way into the drain on the rear side of the Municipal building right under the nose of the City Fathers and the Municipal babus.

The sewage water from the overflowing chamber took place on the ground floor of the Municipal building rear side when Margao Municipal chief Damu Shirodkar along with Chief Officer Manuel Barretto and Municipal Engineer Manoj Arsekar were all huddled in the Chairperson’s chamber with officials of RTO, Traffic and Margao police to discuss parking of rent-a-bikes around the MMC building.

A municipal staffer who was walking on the building passage admitted that the water flowing onto the pavement is that of sewage water from the toilet block. “Foul odour is emanating from the water. This indicates that the water that is flowing on the building pavement is sewage from the toilet block,” the staff informed.

Another staffer wondered how come the episode escaped the attention of the City Fathers and the Municipal officials remains unknown, more so when the civic body has been going around the city to rein in on establishments, whose sewage water finds in the storm water drains.
