Margao BJP leader Ketan Kurtarkar’s presence at the “people’s programme” to lay the foundation stone for the parking plaza at Old market-Fatorda on Monday seemed have to attracted the attention of the party leadership.
In fact, BJP Secretary and South Goa district Coordinator, Sarvanand Bhagat made no bones of the fact that the party would seek explanation from Kurtarkar, whose sister is the BJP-backed Councilor of the Margao Municipal Council.
Ketan, who holds the position of general secretary of BJP Margao Mandal, however, said he would give his explanation to the party leadership as and when he receives the notice from the party. He, however, said he had attended the program at the Old market Fatorda since it was a people’s programme held to lay the foundation stone and not a Goa Forward function.
BJP leader Sarvanand Bhagat said the party has decided to seek explanation from Ketan for the simple reason that that the function was presided over by Goa Forward Chief and members of the regional party, from where Sardesai launched an attack on the Congress-turned-Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
“The BJP is a cadre-based and disciplined party. Since Ketan made his presence felt at the foundation stone laying program which was attended by Vijai Sardesai, the party will seek explanation from the party Margao mandal general secretary,” he said.
Ketan, however, said the people’s programme was not a Goa Forward organised program, but was attended by people from all walks of life, including former MMC Chairpersons Savio Coutinho and Ganashyam Shirodkar.
“Let the party issue me a notice and I will give an explanation to the party over my presence at the foundation stone laying ceremony”, he said.
