The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has invited applications from street vendors association, market and trade association, NGOs, residential welfare associations, nationalized lead bank, etc, to represent the Town Vending Committee (TVC) which will be constituted by the council.
Besides members of the vendors association and the market and trade association, the TVC comprises members from various NGOs and officials from other government departments.
The chief officer will be the chairperson of the TVC whose term will be for a period of three years.
In a public notice, MMC, Chief Officer, Clen Madeira on Tuesday invited applications from street vendors associations, market and trade association, NGOs/CBOs, residential welfare associations, and nationalized lead bank to represent the TVC.
The last day for receipt of the applications is April 27.
As per the guidelines of the Street Vendors (Protection of livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and the Goa Street Vendors Rules, 2016, it is mandatory to constitute a Town Vending Committee.
It may be recalled that setting up of hawking/vending zones was one of the key demands of the Mapusa Merchants’ Association (MMA).
Demanding implementation of national vendor’s policy, the MMA had called for definite demarcation and allotment of hawking/vending zones in the present market.
It had also urged the civic body not to issue extension of the market or vending zone in a radius of 1.5 km of the present market.
“We are happy the civic body has taken up the issue which was one of our key demands. I hope the chief officer will implement the vendor’s policy in letter and spirit and won’t come under political pressure,”
said Ashish Shirodkar, President, MMA.
The chief officer will head the TVC which will comprise the following other members: three members of the MMC, a collector or his representative, chairperson of Planning and Development Authority or his representative, a representative of the Traffic police and general police, 11 representatives of street vendors association, one member each of market and trade association, two representatives of NGOs and one representative of community based organization, two representatives of residential welfare association, one member of a nationalized lead bank and a medical officer of the Urban Health Centre who will be the member secretary.
