MMC staffers urge chairperson to solve their issues

Chairperson cites lapses among staff, asks them to discharge duties with dedication

VASCO

The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) staff has urged MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik to settle their issues of departmental promotion, uniform allowances, balance payment of retired employees, grade pay arrears and other unsettled issues.

Naik took the opportunity to highlight some lapses among the staff employees, including dereliction of duty.

The MMC staff and their union leader Keshav Prabhu met Naik on Thursday.

After giving a patient hearing to the grievances of the employees, Naik told Prabhu that he just took over and it will take some time to streamline the recovery and then settle all the issues.

As Prabhu was pursing the matter, Naik brought to Prabhu’s notice that for the last few days, the recovery was in progress, and as most of the employees went on leave, the recovery process was derailed.

“If every staff works with full faith and dedication, then such a situation will not arise in future. If garbage truck drivers, besides acting as a driver, also supervise the work, then things will slowly fall in place,” added Naik.

A truck driver said most of the garbage trucks are not safe and they have to drive with utmost care.

Replying to problems faced by the truck driver, Naik said that drivers of respective trucks should note down the problems in a log book, as done KTC bus depots, after their duty at the end of the day.

“I served as director with the KTC and I know that every evening, the drivers would mention the problems in the log book, and accordingly, the buses were maintained. If the same procedure is followed here, it will help us to maintain garbage trucks,” added Naik.

Naik also brought to the notice of Prabhu that the staff reach late for work and at times, leave the office for personal work, leaving the council works incomplete.

“If this attitude continue, then things will not fall in place and same problems will continue. If the staff sincerely discharge their duties for the next six months, then all the problems will be solved,” he said.

“Initially, I will bring to the notice of the employees about coming late and dereliction of duties in a good way and if they fail to fall in place, then I will initiate action against them,” said Naik.

Prabhu agreed that if the employees reach late for work, then they should face action. However, Prabhu requested Naik to solve the employees problem at the earliest.

Assuring Prabhu, Naik urged him to direct the staff to work diligently for next three months and help to recover the outstanding.
