Come Monday and Margao Municipal officials will descend at the doorsteps of tax defaulters, zeroing in on major defaulters, owing taxes to the civic body above Rs 25,000.
The tax recovery drive will be initiated in three of the 25-Municipal wards with the newly-elected Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar giving the nod for the administration to rope in the Market inspectors to strengthen the recovery drive.
Municipal recovery teams led by the Recovery Officer, Municipal market inspectors and office staff will start the drive in the three wards. The MMC chairperson said that data on the tax defaulters pertaining to three of the 25-Municipal wards has been compiled by the administration.
“The recovery team has been told to zero in on the defaulters, who owe taxes to the tune of over Rs 25,000. Instructions have been issued to the teams to collect whatever dues the defaulters are willing to pay, saying the civic body is more than willing to give installments to the defaulters to clear the dues,” he said.
