This is just food for thought. Just imagine a situation if the ruling dispensation engineers yet another defection in the Congress Legislative Party. The Congress tally in the Legislative Assembly would overnight come down to a lone MLA, assuming two of the three MLAs walk out. CLP Leader Yuri Alemao would not only lose the status as Opposition leader, but the position would go to the Aam Aadmi Party which is having two MLAs in the Assembly. Political observers say such a situation should not cause any worry for the saffron brigade when it is working overtime to ensure Congress Mukt Bharat. Any takers?
Eyebrows raised over meeting between Ravi, neo-saffronite
It was a week when speculations did the rounds that a Congress-turned-BJP MLA called on BJP Goa observer C T Ravi during his visit to Goa. The meeting is supposed to have taken place at a hotel before the BJP Goa observer had a meeting with party MLAs on Friday. What transpired between C T Ravi and the neo-saffronite could not be ascertained. Speculations, however, are rife whether the reported visit was in connection with the promises made to the Congress MLAs when they defected to the BJP a month ago. Any questions?
Digambar reigns supreme in his fiefdom Margao
Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu has proved a point or two to all and sundry, including the saffron brigade why he is known as Baba or Badsha in his fiefdom. Around 17 years ago, Diggu was instrumental in ending BJP’s reign in Margao, with the saffron brigade losing in both the Assembly and the Margao civic body after he embraced the Congress. The BJP, which was stopped by the seven-time MLA, from returning to power in the last 17 years, is again representing Margao in the Assembly and is ruling the Margao civic body. Have the original city-BJP leaders and workers any answer to Diggu’s feat?
When new MMC chairperson credited Kamat for BJP’s return
Whether the saffron brigade will acknowledge Diggu’s role in the MMC civic chief poll or not remains unknown. But, newly-elected Margao Municipal Chairperson Damubab Shirodkar made it a point to tell the whole world soon after his election that credit goes to the Margao MLA for BJP’s return to the Margao civic body. Damubab’s remarks assumed significance considering that the BJP was kept out of the civic body during Diggu’s 17-year-old stint with the Congress. Is Damubab’s remark a message intended to the saffron bosses that Diggu is a force to reckon within Margao, political observers wonder in Margao?
Goa Forward supremo sets his eyes on Velim
The Goa Forward seemed to have drawn up a plan in minority Saxttidom. Party chief Vijaibab Sardesai has made his entry into the minority heartland Velim via Sao Jose de Areal village with the induction of anti-coal activist Freddybab Travasso. After the party’s plan to make it big in Velim came a cropper in 2017, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai seemed to have again set his eyes on Velim. That leader of seafarers and Chinchinim panchayat member Frankbab Viegas was present at the induction of the anti-coal activist into the regional party, indicates that Vijaibab has something up his sleeves in Saxttidom.
