Consumers failing to pay water bills for two consecutive months could soon see their connections cut, the Public Works Department (PWD) has warned on Friday.
“Consumers are requested to clear all outstanding water bill payments immediately to avoid delay payment charges and disconnection,” a release issued by PWD said.
For all defaulter consumers, supply will be cut on the spot and notices with final bill issued by the department as per law, it said.
The PWD also warned consumers to take steps to correct the "category" of their water connections.
"Those having domestic category connections but using water for non-domestic purposes are advised to approach the concerned PWD sub-division to change to the appropriate category on or before October 31, failing which the department shall initiate proceedings without any formal request by the consumer”, the PWD release adds.
Action will also be taken against consumers who have tampered or are using unauthorized and illegal means to draw water from the public distribution network or using booster pumps on service pipelines.
The Department also urged consumers with sewerage/without sewerage connections to pay bills via digital mode. PWD has implemented Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) and now water bills can be easily paid through digital platforms on any UPI enabled App.
