MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said the council has decided to shift the two schools as the MMC School is located in the heart of the city, while the Mata School area is acquired by the Railways.
Naik made the statement when media persons sought to know the status of renovation of MMC building which was supposed to be taken up before the assembly election.
“The renovation was delayed as the office of Mamlatdar and Deputy Collector was involved in election process,” said Naik.
“Now, we have served notices to all our tenants in the MMC building to vacate the premises and shift to a temporary alternative site. We will start the renovation process soon after the school exams,” added Naik.
“The work is tendered and the work order is already allotted and renovation will start on priority basis and will be completed before the new academic year followed by the renovation work of MMC administrative section and the library,” informed Naik.
When brought to his notice that MMC School does not have a playground and the students have to use the area meant for parking of MMC vehicles, Naik said Vasco MLA Carlos during his earlier term had decided to shift the school along with Mata School to Orulem.
“A site is identified and two buildings will be constructed with all the facilities including a playground in between,” he added.
When asked about the status of construction of MMC building for which foundation stone was laid four years back, Naik said the work order was allotted to the contractor and soil testing is
carried out.
“There are some minor alterations in the design of the building and necessary changes have to be done and once the plan is ready, the work will start,” he said.
