MMC will write to DMA to revive lapsed posts

MARGAO

The much-awaited Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of the Margao Municipal Council finally met on Monday, but not before members of the panel found to their shock and surprise that a number of vacant posts have already lapsed for want of timely filling up of the vacancies.

Given the situation, the Margao Municipal Council has decided to formally write to the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) with a plea to revive the lapsed posts, including the post of UDCs, head clerks and market inspectors.

Sources said the DPC meeting held in camera was attended by Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai, besides Additional Director of Municipal Administration, Triveni Velip, to discuss and finalize the list of names due for promotion in the civic body.

Sources in the know said the DPC members were shocked to find that a number of posts have already lapsed for want of timely action by the civic body to fill up the posts. While the DPC has decided to give promotions to the candidates taking into account the laid down parameters, it has also been decided to send a formal proposal to the DMA’s office for revival of the lapsed posts.

Sources in the know further informed that employees facing departmental and criminal inquiries may not be considered for promotions for the moment till they are cleared of the charges pending against them.

The DPC has been long-awaited by the municipal employees, who have been denied promotional avenues for quite a long time for want of finalization of candidates via the DPC.

Many a municipal employee is also sore over the fact that though they have been denied promotional avenues by the civic body, they have not been considered for revised pay scales.
