Five parcel delivery staff from Sindhudurg have been arrested on charges of stealing 21 mobile phones worth Rs 4.81 lakh from the warehouse of an e-commerce firm in Malpe-Pernem.
According to Pernem PI Sachin Lokre, the company’s assistant manager lodged a complaint at the Pernem Police station regarding a theft of 21 mobile handsets from the company’s storeroom/godown at Malpe.
Police began investigations and found out that the employees from the same company who were into distribution of the goods and two delivery boys, were involved in the theft.
The five accused who have arrested are Viraj Vengurlekar (22) of Mesavada-Satarda, Shridhar Raul (22) of Balojiwada-Kavathani, Vaibhav Satardekar (24) of Gawdewada-Aravali, Harshal Govekar of Satarda and Gaurav from Kavathani.
PI Lokre said customers had ordered mobiles from various companies through the e-commerce company and when the mobiles reached the company godown, the accused employees of the company allegedly stole them.
Pernem police have seized 14 mobiles worth Rs 3.1 lakh and efforts are in progress to recover the remaining seven stolen mobiles.
The accused have been remanded to custody and investigations are in progress under the supervision of Pernem PI Sachin Lokre and guidance of DySP Rajesh Kumar and North Goa Police Superintendent Nidhin Valsan.
