The Village Panchayat of Chicolna Bogmalo marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the foundation stone laying ceremony for a Modern Panchayat Ghar under the Deendayal Panchayati Raj Infrastructure Development Scheme. The event was launched by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, alongside key officials and members of the Bogmalo Panchayat.
Speaking at the event, Godinho emphasized the importance of the project in strengthening grassroots governance and enhancing community development.
“The new facility aims to improve local governance and provide better services to the residents. The previous panchayat ghar was in a dilapidated condition and had been demolished. Today, we are laying the foundation stone for a modern, well-equipped panchayat ghar at the same location,” he stated.
Godinho outlined the project’s funding and development in phases:
“The Phase 1 will be estimated at around Rs 2.73 crore which will be spent on constructing the building. The Phase 2 will be where additional internal works will be carried out. Initially, panchayat ghars were sanctioned Rs 1 crore, but during my tenure, the funding was increased to Rs 3.5 crore and is now expected to go up to Rs 6 crore,” said Godinho.
“The new modern panchayat ghar will feature a lift-equipped building. There will also be space for a post office, bank, and other government offices under one roof. A gym and training centre for the youth will also be located in this building. After the completion of this project, similar development will be taken up for the Sancoale Panchayat Ghar,” added Godinho.
