Mapusa police have traced and arrested the driver allegedly involved in the fatal Moira hit-and-run that claimed the life of 34-year-old Antonio ‘Jonnie’ Quadros.
The accident occurred early Tuesday morning, when Quadros was walking along the Bastora-Moira-Aldona road.
Police said an unidentified vehicle travelling towards Aldona struck him from behind, following which its wheels reportedly ran over his head.
Quadros sustained critical injuries and later succumbed.
The driver allegedly abandoned the victim and fled without stopping to render assistance or alert the authorities.
Following the incident, Mapusa police reached the spot and shifted Quadros to the North District Hospital in a 108 ambulance.
A case was registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
CCTV footage and technical analysis helped police identify the vehicle as a Maharashtra-registered chicken transport truck.
Police subsequently arrested Rohan Patil, a Kolhapur native, in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway.
