The villagers of Moira on Sunday opposed the double circuit transmission power line for the proposed sub-station in Saligao which is passing through the village as it will affect the livelihood of 67 farmers.
At the gram sabha the villagers said that the new transmission line would inconvenience the farmers making cultivation of fields difficult.
“Three towers will be constructed in the Moira panchayat area. Around 67 farmers who are cultivating fields will be directly affected due to the transmission line,” Sarpanch Sagar Naik informed the the villagers, while placing the proposal for discussion at the gram sabha.
The villagers then unanimously resolved to oppose the transmission line.
Naik said that a copy of the resolution opposing the transmission line will be sent to the electricity department.
It may be recalled, the government had initiated the process of installing a new power transmission line which will run through nine villages in Bardez in bid to augment power supply to North Goa.
Besides Moira, the transmission line also passes through Colvale, Tivim, Bastora, Guirim, Parra, Nagoa, Calangute and Saligao.
The electricity department had informed that a 220 KV double circuit transmission line will be constructed from the 400/220 KV Power Grid sub-station at Colvale to the proposed 220/33 KV substation at Saligao.
The proposed double circuit transmission line will be 220 km long and which entails setting up of 72 towers en route from Colvale sub-station to Saligao sub-station.
