The Pomburpa-Olaulim gram sabha on Sunday unanimously decided to cancel the permission granted for construction of a road at Ecoxim by the then panchayat in 2009.
The locals also decided not to allow mega projects and destruction of hills and forest in the village.
The villagers raised the issue of the alleged illegal road that was being constructed in Ecoxim and asked whether the work had permission from the forest department.
Incidentally, the panchayat had cancelled the scheduled inspection of the road early this month,Pomburpa Sarpanch Leopoldina informed the gram sabha that the work did not have permission from the forest.
A local resident Dhirendra Phadte informed that the then panchayat had passed a resolution for construction of road by showing that there was road in survey number 292/1, 292/1-L near Dadeshwar temple at Bhatan.
He said the decision taken by the then panchayat was wrong as there was no road in there and it was done for personnel benefit.
“The locals of Bhatan were not taken in confidence while passing the resolution in 2009. The then panchayat body committed a fraud by showing that there was a pathway in the property. The road was then constructed without forest approval,” Phadte said and demanded scrapping of the alleged illegal road.
The villagers then unanimously resolved to scrap the permission granted for the road and further also resolved not to allow destruction of hills and forest in the village.
