The Southwest Monsoon officially reached Kerala on May 24, a week earlier than the usual June 1 start. Goa is expected to get its first monsoon showers in the next two to three days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are suitable for the monsoon to spread further over the next few days. It is likely to move into more parts of the central Arabian Sea, all of Goa, parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, more areas in Karnataka, the rest of Tamil Nadu, parts of the west-central and north Bay of Bengal, the Northeastern states, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Even as IMD Goa issued a red alert on Saturday, Panaji saw a short break from the very heavy rain.

The State has been receiving heavy rainfall since Monday, and the IMD has warned that rain will increase until May 29. An orange alert is in place until May 28.

Disaster response teams are on high alert, and people have been advised to take all necessary precautions.
