The onset of Southwest monsoon skipped its date with Kerala on Sunday (June 4) which is expected to have an impact on monsoon arrival over Goa.
However, a cyclonic system developing over Southeast Arabian Sea is expected to boost the progress of monsoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The IMD has said that Goa is expected to witness light to moderate rain/thundershower at a few places from June 5 to 8.
The State is also expected to experience thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (30-40kmph) on Monday (June 5).
“A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Southeast Arabian Sea around June 5. Under its influence a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region during subsequent 48 hours,” said IMD scientist Rajasree.
According to the IMD scientist, this system will boost the progress of monsoon.
The IMD had said monsoon over Kerala will be delayed and predicted its arrival in the Southern state around June 4 with a model error of four days.
Monsoon usually arrives in Kerala on June 1.
The delay in the onset of monsoon in Kerala is expected to push further the arrival of monsoon in Goa.
The normal date for the onset of monsoon over Goa is June 5.
India is expected to get normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season despite the evolving El Nino conditions, the IMD had earlier said.
Northwest India is expected to see normal to below normal rainfall.
East and northeast, central, and south peninsula is expected to receive normal rainfall at 94-106 per cent of the long-period average of 87 centimetres.
According to the IMD, rainfall between 96 and 104 per cent of a 50-year average of 87 cm is considered ''normal''.
