PERNEM
A group of farmers affected by the upcoming Mopa airport staged a one-day dharna at Tulaskarwadi-Pernem, to protest against the ongoing survey for the Dhargal-Mopa national highway link project.
The protest was attended largely by women, who changed anti-BJP slogans. A police team was present at the site to maintain law and order.
Manoj Shirodkar told reporters that the aggrieved farmers had gathered near the Mopa airport gate on Monday morning to demand their rights, on receiving news that a government team would conduct a survey with police protection.
The farmers and the Mopa Dhargal Shetkari Sangharsh Samiti have been opposing the land acquisition work for the link road and have, instead, demanded land ownership rights.
Rukmini Tulaskar, Lilavati Tulaskar, Kalindi Salgaonkar, Taramati Salgaonkar, Manoj Salgaonkar, Gaurish Tulaskar, Mahesh Tulaskar and Arjun Salgaonkar were among those expressed their views in the matter.
