PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte questioned the government’s decision to provide water supply to 70 Highland villas from the existing pipeline and said it would only cause further conflict among residents in the area.
“Instead of laying a separate pipeline to Highland villas, the PWD acted on instructions of the CM and is providing a T-joint to the existing pipeline to release water to Highland villas.”
“In the first place, Porvorim does not get sufficient water. Though the water requirement in Porvorim is 21 MLD, Porvorim was receiving 16 MLD for several months and it has now reduced to 13 MLD. Under these circumstances, how will PWD meet the demand of water requirement of the 70 Highland villas?”
The Porvorim MLA said PWD engineers have replied that they would cut water supply to some areas in the plateau and release water to residents of Highland villas.
“This is stupidity as it will not only effect water supply to other residents in the area and the fishermen community in Britona, it will also increase conflict among the residents. Instead of resolving the problem, the PWD is creating more problems for the locals,” said Khaunte.
He said the PWD has now summoned a police force to enable them execute the work.
“The only solution to this problem is to lay a separate 300-metre pipeline from the Torda Overhead Tank to Highland villas,” suggested Khaunte.
