Mormugao Port Trust on Thursday dispatched 330 cartons of mineral water to flood affected victims at Chennai.
MPT official Seby Coutinho stated that as per a Central government circular, any government office wishing to send relief material through the Indian railways to the flood affected victims at Chennai would be done free of cost.
“Earlier, the MPT along with the Coast Guard had dispatched mineral water and other relief material and now, with the help of the Indian Railways and the Real Group of Companies, we are sending more cartons of mineral water, as it is the need of the hour for the victims,” said Coutinho.
“MPT Chairman Jaykumar took special interest in dispatching the mineral water and has sought special permission from the Chennai district collector Dr IAS Umakant to deliver the material to the flood affected victims,” he added.
Vasco Railway station manager Selvan stated that the material would be dispatched through the Vasco-Chennai Express train which will leave on Thursday evening and will reach Chennai on Saturday afternoon.
