Mormugao civic body discusses council issues; arrangements for Saptah

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday morning discussed various issues related to the council and also arrangements for the Annual Damodar Saptah.

Speaking to media persons later, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker said one of the major issues discussed were on the filling up of various posts in the MMC.

“We have had a few posts that need to be filled up and we have already put forth our requirements with the Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane. The minister has already assured us that all our requirements of staff like masons, drivers will be taken care of within a month’s time,” said Borkar.

Borkar added that there was a shortage of parking space in the city during the Saptah.

“The MMC will be requesting a few institutions to give us the space for parking of vehicles, at least in the first few days of Saptah festival,” said Borker.

“Another issue is that the main FL Gomes road has been closed for construction of an Up-Ramp to connect to the four-lane port connectivity flyover and this could cause hindrance in traffic movement.”

“We are trying to find a way out because vehicles are presently moving through Swatantra Path that was usually being occupied by furniture stalls. We have had a discussion with the Mormugao DySP and Traffic PI and we are trying to place these furniture stalls in the FL Gomes road which is partly dug due to works.”

“We are otherwise trying to shift them to the open space opposite the Tanya Hotel. The furniture stalls may face issue this year because we are taking up the works of a ramp connecting FL Gomes Road to the port connectivity flyover,” he said.
