The days of haphazard parking in Vasco are numbered as Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) will start the recovery van services to pick up two-wheelers wrongly parked in the port town from October 1.
According to MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, the recovery van services had been discontinued after the recovery vehicle had broken down and was lying idle near Vasco police station for several days.
“We received many complaints from people in Vasco regarding haphazard parking of two-wheelers in the city. The recovery vehicle has been repaired and will start lifting wrongly parked two-wheelers from October 1,” he said.
“I have also appointed a team of one driver and 5 workers to work in two shifts in a day and lift vehicles parked in no-parking zones or wrongly parked in city limits.”
“The new timings of shifts will be from 8.45 am to 1.15 pm in the first shift and 3.45 pm to 7.15 pm in the second shift. I have also directed that in case the driver is absent, the team has to report to the senior supervisor in the stores and maintenance section and work as directed by him,” said Fernandes.
Pig catcher to tackle stray pigs
VASCO: Pig catchers are likely to be in demand in Vasco and it has nothing to do with piggeries or pork shops.
The Mormugao Municipal council (MMC) has appointed a pig catcher to catch the many stray pigs causing nuisance to motorists and pedestrians along the streets of Vasco.
“Acting on several complaints regarding the pig menace in the city, a pig catcher has been appointed to seize stray pigs moving around in the city,” said MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes.
“In case of any pig menace, people can contact the pig catcher, Rocky Pereira (Ph: 9657304982), who is authorised by this council to seize any stray pig. Let us try to eradicate the pig menace in Vasco city,” added Fernandes.
