With the monsoon approaching, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday issued a public advisory asking residents living in vulnerable areas to move to safer places as a precaution.

The council identified several locations with a history of landslides and waterlogging, including Bogda (behind MPT Quarters and Bogdeshwar Temple), Desterro (behind El-Monte Theatre), Upper Jetty–Mormugao, Islampur-Baina, Sasmolem near Holy Cross, Candelaria, areas around Goa Shipyard Limited, New Vaddem, Driver Hill, Khariwada, Sada, Harbour Jetty, Mangor Hill and Vaddem.

According to the notice, these areas remain highly prone to natural hazards during the monsoon, and fresh incidents cannot be ruled out. Residents have been advised to take timely precautions and shift wherever necessary to avoid any untoward situations.

The civic body also made it clear that those who choose to stay in these identified areas will do so at their own risk.
