Mormugao Council rakes in Rs 2.30L in surprise inspection at Saptah fair

Sets Friday deadline to pay pending dues

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) decided to carry out a surprise inspection to recover dues from several stalls set up for the Saptah Fair and recovered Rs 2.30 lakh in one day.  

The MMC team comprising MMC Chairperson Girish Borker, Chief Officer Jayant Tari, other staff and municipal inspectors along with the councillors attached to the MMC Market committee carried out the surprise inspection on Friday morning.  

The inspection continued throughout the day, breaking for lunch and finally ended up in a collection of around Rs 2.30 lakhs.  

Speaking to reporters, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker said the MMC had warned that the council would confiscate goods if the dues are not paid.  

“We decided to have a joint surprise inspection with the staff, inspectors, Market Committee and chief officer and check for dues. The Saptah festival began on August 22 and it has been three days already but a few people are yet to pay us our dues,” he added.
