Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Wednesday said Mormugao constituency has been seeing maximum development like never before.

He was speaking after the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) took up the beautification and development of the Kalavati ground in the ward of Councillor Shashikant Parab at the cost of Rs 30 lakh, sanctioned under the 14th finance funds of GSUDA. “This is my third term as legislator and I was in the opposition during my first five years. But in the last 10 years, I have been in the ruling and I have ensured that Mormugao sees maximum development which was never been witnessed before. Besides, I have created several jobs opportunities for people,” said the minister.

Naik said the Kalavati ground had been host to political meetings, Dandiya events during Diwali and private functions, but no one had thought of developing the place and beautifying the ground. “I have sanctioned the works under the 14th finance funds under GSUDA, which is a new department given to me. In the last one year, I have got several projects not only in Mormugao but also in Vasco, including long-pending Vasco and Baina fish markets. I have got works in every ward of MMC. There are over 15 major projects being taken up in Mormugao constituency, which are in different stages of completion, including the swimming pool complex which is almost ready. Once all these projects are complete, Mormugao constituency will sport a different look all together,” said Naik.

Parab said since the stage on the ground is named as Shivaji Vyaspeeth, the MMC had decided to beautify and make the compound wall like a fort of Shivaji.
