Work and services at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) returned to normalcy on Monday, after the week-long strike of MMC corkers ended on Saturday night.
Newly-appointed Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat also took charge of the MMC as many people were seen visiting the municipal council office on Monday.
As assured by them, the municipal workers began clearing garbage from various locations in the city at around 4 am on Sunday and by Monday, cleared most of the overflowing garbage piles along the roadsides.
By Monday morning, Mormugao Municipality staff returned to work and people began flocking to MMC for their works.
While there was a rush of people at the counters for payments and other documentation, garbage trucks were also seen moving along the roads of the port town.
The door-to-door collection also resumed, bringing cheer to residents and ending the hardships they had faced for almost a week during the strike by the MMC workers.
