The Calangute and Saligao police stations may be sharing the same premises, but the police inspector at the distant Mormugao police station has been tasked to handle the police inspector's work at the Calangute police station.
This unusual posting has arisen as PI Nolasco Raposo of Calangute police station has been nominated as course co-ordinator to impart training to police personnel deployed in Tourist Police.
In an order issued by SP (HQ) Nidhin Valsan on Friday, PI Raposo has been directed to report to the Superintendent of Police (Training) for 15 days with effect from January 4 to finalise the course content and to start the course at Police Training School at Valpoi.
During this period, Mormugao Police Inspector Paresh Naik has been directed to look after the police inspector's work at the Calangute police station. In case of any major law and order problem, PI Raposo may be sent back to the Calangute police station.
The order states that SP (Training) shall design the specialised training course for the Tourist Police and may also take assistance of Crime Branch Police Inspector Filomeno Costa or any other police inspectors.
The SP (Training) would further get the course/syllabus finalised from the DIG (C&R) at Panaji, the order adds.
The order directing PI Paresh Naik of the Mormugao Police Station, a police station in South Goa, to look after the police inspector's work at the Calangute police station is baffling to many, specially since there are a number of police stations in North Goa in closer proximity to the Calangute police station.
Incidentally, the Saligao police station and the Calangute police station are located in the same building and the Saligao PS has only two villages under its jurisdiction.
Besides, the Anjuna police station is also not too far from the Calangute police station, making it easier for the police inspectors at Saligao or Anjuna police stations to have handled the Calangute police station during the absence of PI Raposo.
