A special council meeting for taking up of pre-monsoon works was held at Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday morning where in a lot of issues including the cleaning of wells, de weeding of water bodies and works

of drainage and gutters were taken up.

The meeting was peaceful and there were no heated moments even though news of moving a no-confidence motion against MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar by the opposition panel councillors had been on the cards for quite some time.

Another topic that came up for discussion was the long-pending signature project of the construction of the bungalow of the chief officer. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar said that the special meeting was called only considering the vital pre-monsoon works in mind.

Gaönkar said that though the code of conduct caused delay in the pre-monsoon works, 75 % of works were completed and steps would be taken to expedite the remaining 25 %.

“We will take up cleaning of wells immediately

as it could not be taken up earlier as we had a shortfall of labour but we had informed the councillors that they can engage their own labourers to clean the wells and the amount could be refunded from

MMC. As far as the signature project of the chief officer’s bungalow is concerned, it was pending for a long time. We had a discussion on this matter and it has decided that we will go ahead with the construction of the project. We have also devided the mobilisation amount to the contractor based on the condition and it will be around ten percent of the

project cost 75 Lakhs (around 7.5 crores is the entire cost).  There are 25 wards in the MMC jurisdiction. Most of the areas in different wards don’t have gutter slabs and

are open. We have resolved that every ward will get around 500 gutter slabs for covering the gutters,” Gaonkar said.
