Suryakant Dessai (42) was murdered by his relatives on Friday evening at Xelvona over a property dispute. Curchorem Police arrested the victim’s aunt Shavanti Dessai while her son Hemant Dessai is absconding.
On Friday, a fight took place between Hemant Vishnu Dessai, Shavanti and her nephew Suryakant Dessai on a property matter. In a rush of anger, both mother and son attacked Suryakant with a pick-axe causing grave injuries.
Suryakant was rushed to Cacora Health Center and then shifted to Margao Hospicio Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
As per information given by the Curchorem Police, Shraya Dessai, wife of the deceased Suryakant Dessai lodged a complaint in the police station stating that at 3 pm on Friday, her husband was mercilessly beaten by Shavanti and her son Hemant.
Police after registering a case started investigation. During investigation, it was revealed that a verbal exchange took place between Suryakant, Shevanti and Hemant because of a retaining wall near their houses.
Curchorm Police have registered a case of murder and arrested Shevanti who after being produced in Court has been remanded to five days police custody. Her son Hemant Dessai, however, is absconding. PSI Ravindra Dessai is investigating.
