Speaking to The Goan, a representative from the Bangalore-based company Bangalore Medical Systems Pvt Ltd (BMS) said the vehicle will prove to be of importance especially in a state like Goa.
“So far this type of emergency service is found in states like Maharashtra and Karnataka, where it is doing a good job. Here in Goa too it will prove to be very important especially with narrow roads that make it difficult for a four-wheeled ambulance to rush to the spot of emergency,” he said.
Sold under the RMS Motors tag, BMS has agreed to provide 22 motorcycle ambulances. On a pilot basis, BMS has delivered one ambulance to the state.
The motorcycle ambulance (150 cc bike) has a special box strapped to the back of the vehicle that contains the medical equipment. It contains an automated external defibrillator, a first-aid kit, an IV set, a wireless monitoring system along with oxygen cylinders, entonox cylinder (containing a mixture of medical nitrous oxide and oxygen). The first-aid kit contains a CPR mask, stethoscope, and laryngoscopes. The representative also said that people operating the service will be well trained. The ambulance on wheels is expected to reach the site of the emergency in a matter of five minutes and depending on the seriousness of the emergency, a 108 ambulance will be requisitioned.
