Porvorim
A motorist has been booked by Porvorim police for allegedly threatening, abusing and obstructing a traffic policeman while he was on duty at Malim Junction on Friday afternoon.
According to the complaint, Head Constable Sushhant Mhapankar of the Porvorim Traffic Cell was deployed at Malim Junction from 2 pm to 10 pm along with a police team to regulate traffic. The team was clearing congestion caused by a road accident at the junction.
At around 3.15 pm, the accused, identified as Audumbar Uday Bandodkar, was allegedly driving a car from Panaji towards Porvorim. Police said he entered the bridge on the wrong side at high speed, crossing into the opposite lane.
Head Constable Mhapankar signalled him to stop, but Bandodkar allegedly ignored the signal and drove the vehicle towards the officer. He is also accused of threatening the constable.
When the traffic policeman approached him, Bandodkar allegedly pushed the officer and drove away towards Porvorim, preventing him from carrying out his official duties.
Based on the complaint, Porvorim police registered a case against Bandodkar under Sections 221, 132, 351(3) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Arun Shirodkar.
