MARGAO
The move of the Goa police to set up a police station in Navelim has once again come a cropper over land issues.
If the proposal could not see the light of day in the last two years for want of land, the proposal to acquire land at Sirvodem for the proposed Navelim police station fell flat with the SGPDA too rejecting the same.
Superintendent of Police, Panaji, had moved a proposal to the SGPDA for land acquisition in property bearing chalta No of PT Sheet No 301 of Sirvodem-Margao for construction of the police station.
SGPDA Chairman Wilfred D’Sa said the proposal did not find favour with the authority on the ground that the land in question is agricultural. He further added that there cannot be two police stations in one constituency, reminding that the Sirvodem area which falls in Margao comes under the jurisdiction of Margao police station.
“There is already one police station in the Margao planning area. Sirvodem falls in Margao area and the planning area of the SGPDA is restricted only to Margao and not beyond,” he said.
