Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stressing the need for working out a five-year action plan for agriculture in Goa called for efforts for developing Krishi culture by undertaking integrated farming of agriculture and horticulture, agriculture and dairy farming.
Sawant chaired the meeting of ICAR officials at his official residence, Altinho on Wednesday.
Sawant further speaking advised the officials of ICAR and KVK of North Goa and South Goa to work jointly in preparing a five-year action plan for the State. He also advised recruiting staff to do away with the shortage of staff to speed up the work. He sought Cooperation of ICAR Goa and other experts for enhancing productivity thereby boosting agricultural productivity in the State. There is a scope for processing of rice and different kinds of fruits which needs the required attention, he added. The Director ICAR Goa, Dr E VChakurkar in his introductory remarks informed about the objective of the meeting to sensitise all concerned about how to enhance agriculture production, its processing, branding and marketing and value addition to enhance the income of the farmer, making the farmer self-reliant and achieve the goal of Swayampurna Goa at large.
The ICAR also invited experts from various disciplines like horticulture, agriculture to seek their expertise and guidance towards enhancing agriculture in the State.
