PERNEM
Armed with government directives to fine those not wearing face masks in public spaces, the Agarwada panchayat in Pernem taluka took the lead on Wednesday and began fining people Rs 200 for failing to wear face masks.

Agarwada Talathi Shriraj Shelar started levying fines on those who were found without face masks in public spaces in the village.

While the government’s SOP demands practising social distancing and wearing of masks, these have not been followed at many public places, especially at beaches in Pernem taluka.

Many tourists have been found enjoying themselves on the beaches with least regard to these SOPs, while many political meetings have been conducted with little adherence to these SOPs.
