Post Verna accident, which claimed the lives of four labourers, Labour Commissioner Levinson Martins has sent a communiqué to the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) with a plea to examine the matter and take necessary action against the contractor and the Principal Employer under the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970) and other laws in force.
The Regional Labour Commission has been told to furnish copy of the Licences and Registration Certificates obtained by the Contractor and the Principal Employer and produce documents submitted for registration as the same is required for processing case under Employees Compensation Act.
Based on the report submitted by the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Martins stated that it is seen that the Principal Employer is "Chief Engineer, Office of the Chief Engineer (NH R&B), Public Works Department, Altinho, Panaji Goa and Contractor is M/s Kudroli Builders & Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd, Kelembika Tower (Gate Way) Tisk Ponda Goa which falls within the jurisdiction of Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Vasco.
“You are hereby requested to examine the matter and take necessary action against the Contractor and Principal Employer under Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970; Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979 and The Buildings And Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment And Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 and the Rules there under”, the letter stated, while asking the Regional Labour Commissioner to submit copy of the Action Taken Report to this Office.
