VASCO: The RTI petitioner and Vasco-based environmental activist Adv Savio Correia said MPT’s moves to seek a single Consent To Operate (CTO) would benefit the port while handling different types of cargo, but it would also place upon itself considerable responsibility in the
process.
“I feel it is a good move because MPT will have one CTO for all cargo. But with our present experiences of coal dust pollution, MPT would have to shut down and operations would come to a grinding halt if GSPCB decides to keep the single CTO on hold or not renew it for whatsoever reasons.”
“Today, one operator is blaming the other because of coal pollution and finally MPT is blaming the wood chips, etc. With this move, MPT becomes one single unit and if there is more pollution, the entire port has to shut down. So, the port places upon itself added responsibility to ensure that all cargo is handled without causing any pollution.”
