With the naphtha-laden vessel MT Nu-Shi Nalini now securely docked at the port, the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has stated that the naphtha will be stored at the Tank Farm of Ganesh Benzoplast Limited (GBL), before it is further transported by the successful bidder.
In a press note, the MPT stated that MT Nu-Shi Nalini got stuck on a rock/soft ground in the sea near Dona Paula on October 24, due to gusty winds and the cyclonic ‘Kyarr’.
On November 21, M/s Marine Master BV of Netherlands was given the job of salvaging the vessel and on Wednesday night, the expert team of Marine Masters successfully refloated and towed the vessel to Berth 8 of Mormugao Port Trust.
“On December 10, the High Court of
Judicature at Bombay, Admiralty and Vice Admiralty Jurisdiction and its Commercial Division, ordered the schedule auctioning of the vessel MT Nu Shi Nalini by the Court Sheriff.”
“According to the order, the exercise of removing the cargo on board the vessel to be completed by December 12 and by December 13, the vessel is to be made available for inspection.”
“Accordingly, timely unloading of cargo started to comply with the schedule of High Court. As per the order, by the next date of hearing, i.e. January 3, 2020, the ship is to be auctioned,” stated the MPT.
The MPT stated that the naphtha cargo has already sold to the highest bidder through MSTC through online bidding and customs clearances have also been obtained.
“As an intermediate arrangement, the cargo will be stored at the Tank Farm of M/s Ganesh Benzoplast Ltd. (the only facility of suitable ‘Class’ in the area) for further transportation by the successful bidder.”
“As an abundant precaution, on the insistence of MPT, pipelines of GBL have been tested and certified by Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) on November 28 and tanks of GBL have also been tested and certified by the PESO Competent Authorities on November 28.”
“The operation is continuing with utmost care in handling and storing of cargo,” stated the MPT.
