PANAJI: The Mormugao Port Trust Pensioners’ Association has issued a formal notice to the Mormugao Port Authority, warning of a protest if its long-pending demands are not addressed within 30 days.
In a letter dated December 23, 2025, addressed to the Chairperson at Headland, Sada, the association said a conference of pensioners and family pensioners held on November 16, 2025, at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina had unanimously adopted several resolutions flagging key concerns.
A major demand is the withdrawal of any proposal to shut down the Port Hospital. The association argued that no other major port in the country has closed its hospital or shifted to a Public-Private Partnership model. If a PPP arrangement is introduced, it said the annual subscription payable by pensioners and family pensioners must be borne by the Authority.
The association has also sought payment of arrears under the second formula or methodology. It has demanded extension of medical benefits to SPVRS retirees who superannuated prior to 2017, bringing them on par with those who retired after 2017.
Among other issues raised are the counting of 50% ELR service for pensionary benefits, distribution of Port calendars for 2026 to pensioners, and full reimbursement of medical expenses in line with a judgment of the Supreme Court of India.
The association has cautioned that if the demands remain unresolved within 30 days of receipt of the notice, pensioners will stage a protest outside the MPA Administrative Office.
