South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday said that the MPT should mind its business of the Port and not beyond that, even as he called upon the Goa government to take up with the Centre on the raging controversy.
He demanded that the Goa government should immediately write to the Centre on the issue, saying a delegation can call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concerned Minister to discuss the serious issue.
“It is unfortunate that the MPT is insisting for its NOC to set up beach shacks at the Baina beach. This government should open its eyes and not allow the MPT to have its way. As an MP, I am also an ambassador of Goa to Delhi. We will also do the follow up in Delhi. Let the government open its eyes and send an urgent letter to the Centre on the issue,” he added.
The South Goa MP welcomed the government’s decision to reduce the fuel prices on both petrol and diesel after protests by the people and the Opposition. He, however, said the government should also reduce the price of the LPG cylinders immediately.
Sardinha also demanded a roll back in the water tariff, saying the government should either do the roll back before the polls or the Congress will do the same after the 2022 polls. “The Congress has given the promise to effect a roll back in the water tariff when the party comes to power in 2022,” he added.
On the job recruitment front, the MP said the unemployed youth are waiting to get a call as the government has promised to fill up 10,000 jobs before December. “I warn the government to ensure that no middlemen takes advantage and exploit the unemployed youth by promising jobs,” he added.
Sardinha says High Command should not give tickets to newcomers
MARGAO: Senior Congress leader, MP Francisco Sardinha has reiterated that the party High Command should not give tickets to the people and leader joining the party on the eve of elections.
Saying the party leadership will take a call on this and other issues since the party need candidates to win the election, Sardinha, however, said that the leadership should not give tickets to the new comers in areas where the party has a strong presence.
He was reacting to a query whether the party will give tickets to BJP or Independent MLAs if they embrace the Congress on the eve of the polls. “The High Command should not give the tickets to the new comers. This is the demand and the aspirations of the party rank and file. I will certainly draw the attention of the party leadership to these aspirations of the workers,” he added.
