MARGAO
The adjourned meeting of the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) held in a virtual mode on Sunday ended within a few minutes after adopting the auditor’s report and appointment of new auditors for the bank.
Some of the shareholders, however, cried foul over the virtual mode meeting, saying those registered for the virtual mode, could not participate in the meeting because of technical glitches.
The meeting was chaired by MUCB Chairman Kishore Narvekar. Vice-Chairman Rupesh Mahatme and Managing Director, Kishore Amonkar were also seen. While around 35 shareholders had registered for the virtual meeting, some of them could not put their points across due to some glitches.
A shareholder Sunil Naik, who raised queries via the virtual mode, sought to demand the confirmation of the accounts first before the Chairman proceeded with the balance two points listed on the agenda of the adjourned meeting.
Sunil also sought details on other charges and other expenses mentioned in the expenditure column on the profit and loss account for the year ending March 31, 2020.
MUCB Managing Director Amonkar promised to provide the information under the any other business matter, as the bank went strictly by the matter listed on the agenda.
Shareholder Dionisio Sardinha, who is a petitioner in the High Court in the MUCB case, told the media that he could not put his points across at the virtual meeting as he tried to register for the virtual mode, but kept receiving a message that you can’t register for meetings from a mobile device at this time.
He later sent a message to the MUCB Managing Director Kishore Amonkar saying the shareholders also know how to play if the bank management is playing dirty with the shareholders. “You are playing visual games and we will play live games. I tried so many times to register myself, but I was getting the message that you can’t register for meetings from a mobile device. To even download the App, but the same continued. I tried to call the girl from the Bank who called saying that she has sent me the mail for today’s meeting. I tried calling back on the same number, but nobody was attending maybe because it was Sunday,” he said.
While the MUCB claimed the Board had opted for the virtual meeting in view of the COVID norms and restrictions, shareholders disputed the claim, saying the Board had gone for the virtual mode so as to avoid accountability and transparency in the functioning, including failure to provide defaulters list.
