A multi-agency mock drill was conducted to assess the capabilities of various security agencies and to enhance their coordination to effectively counter any terrorist threat in the port.

The agencies involved in the mock drill were the CISF unit of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), NDRF, Coastal police, Mormugao Police, ATS, BDDS, Dog squad of Goa police, MPT hospital and the fire wing.

The mock drill was conducted under the supervision of MPT Dy Commandant of CISF Kuldeep Bhagat and Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu.

An assault team of CISF commandos and ATS of Goa police carried out joint operations and neutralised 2 terrorists. The explosives carried by the terrorists were disposed by the BDDS and dog squad of Goa police, while the NDRF sealed the leakage of the ammonia tanks and started decontaminating the location with support of state/MPT fire services.

Speaking to reporters, MPT CISF unit Dy Commandant Kuldeep Bhagat said the mock drill was conducted after the department had received directives from the higher ups.

“We were informed to have a joint mock drill with various agencies. As a part of the mock drill, a situation was created of a forceful entry of militants in the port, after which they hide in the sensitive ammonia storage tank site and start rapid firing.”

“The CISF teams got together to neutralise the situation along with state police, fire department and NDRFand bring it under control while killing two terrorists and capturing one alive.”

“With a chance that there could be ammonia leakage, the NDRF team was also called to handle the situation. The shielding department also sealed the leakage of the ammonia tanks during the mock drill. A BDDS team later carried out an extensive search to check for any explosives that may have been left behind by the militants during the mock drill,” said Bhagat.

Bhagat expressed happiness that all departments had coordinated perfectly during the mock drill. Bhagat said all agencies were later de-briefed on the mock drill exercise and thanked all agencies for participating in the mock drill.
