Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday said a multimodal transport system would be in place in the State, which would enable people to use a single app to travel by different modes of transport.

Godinho was speaking after inaugurating the GoaMiles taxi counter at Dabolim Airport in the presence of presence of Airport Director Dhanamjaya Rao, transport department officials, panch members of Chicalim Panchayat and officials of GoaMiles.

"I want cheap and reliable app-based transportation be provided to Goans and tourists at Dabolim Airport. Dabolim airport is here to stay and we are trying to combine the synergy of both airports, one each in South and North Goa.”

“Goa is a brand by itself we always read on media and social media and people complain to transport department about the awful taxi service in Goa, which is overcharging and exploiting passengers,” said Godinho.

"GoaMiles is launching a taxi service today and within short time, we will have multimodal transport service in Goa wherein you can book on an app and upon coming here, people can travel by a bus or go by a taxi. If there are two people with less luggage, they can choose a cheaper alternative and travel in a rickshaw. If there is a single person with one bag, he can travel by a motorcycle pilot, which will also be there on the same app," said Godinho.

The minister said people had been yearning for an app-based taxi system.

“We only had prepaid taxis at Dabolim airport earlier but in a digital world, we have to move with the times and we have to be in tune with the world and our aim is to provide cheap and safe transport for Goans. This is why we launched Electrical Kadamba buses and now we have launched the GoaMiles app-based taxi service from here and this is a big moment for Goa Airport," said Godinho.

"Ola and Uber are having issues in Karnataka and we will not welcome them to Goa and it is appropriate that we start GoaMiles that has survived bad times as well. GoaMiles have proven their worth and many people have been missing them and I am sure they will capture the hearts of Goans, which is my primary concern," said Godinho.
