PANAJI: The Government of India is contemplating launching a cruise service between Mumbai and Bali in Indonesia with stops at Goa, Kochi along the route, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari said.
Speaking on the occasion of the ‘topping out’ ceremony of the third Mandovi bridge, Gadkari said that the government can earn huge revenue through this.
“Hundreds of thousands of Indians travel to Bali. They can travel from Mumbai by cruise. This will become a big tourist attraction. One lakh tourists from our country travel to Singapore by cruise. Our effort is to develop cruise tourism here,” Gadkari said.
Gadkari said that with travel and tourism operators eager to develop new avenues in tourism the cruise tourism would be one of the focus areas.
Trial runs for luxury ferry services between Goa and Mumbai have already been carried out while Drishti Marine is running ferry services between Baina in Vasco to several locations in the North of Goa including Sinquerim, Panaji and Old Goa.
