Municipal chairperson assures support to affected vendors

 FIRE AT STALLS IN CURCHOREM

Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Prasanna Bhende met with the vendors whose stalls were gutted in a fire and assured them that the matter would be taken up with the government to seek financial assistance.

A major fire in the wee hours of Monday gutted 22 of the 50 street stalls at a vendor shed in Curchorem, resulting in an estimated loss of about Rs 5 lakh.

The incident occurred around 2.30 am, close to the Curchorem Bus Stand where a Narkasur competition was taking place. The burnt stalls belonged primarily to local fruit and flower vendors, whose livelihoods depend on these small businesses.

Locals joined fire brigade officials in strenuous efforts to douse the blaze. Two youth sustained minor injuries while assisting in the fire-fighting operations but were treated and discharged from the Upgraded Health Centre after receiving first aid.

Following the disaster, social worker Rohan Dessai visited the affected vendors and provided immediate financial aid to help mitigate their losses.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, reports indicate that some youth were seen moving suspiciously near the shed just before the fire broke out.
