Murder, drugs and now a sex link to Curlies shack

PANAJI

In what could add more woes to the Curlies beach shack restaurant, its alleged involvement in the sex trade has come to the fore.

The permanent structure on the Anjuna coast has come into focus after BJP leader and content creator Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged by her political aides Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh during a late-hour party on August 22. She succumbed hours later.

While both her male associates are currently in police custody undergoing interrogation, Curlies owner Edwin Nunes and two alleged drug peddlers are also arrested in connection with promoting and smuggling drugs.

As the investigation continues, Curlies' suspected involvement in the sex trade has emerged. The Goan has come across a website operated by Delhi Escorts which promotes the controversial structure as a sex den.

“Curlies is a beach shack at Anjuna Beach in Goa. It is always full of tourists who come here in search of some good food and relaxation. In addition to sumptuous meals, tourists also love the trance parties and music parties that are organized at Curlies very frequently. You can have loads of fun at this place provided you have the company of a beautiful and s*** woman,” an extract of the advertisement reads, as it lures visitors to indulge in the illegal escort service. The website which contains WhatsApp numbers has also posted objectionable pictures of girls and women.

The Goan has refrained from divulging all the contents of the advertisement considering its offensive nature.

The fresh revelation, if proven, can add to the trouble for Nunes and Company whose restaurant has often run into controversy. The Anjuna police refused to comment stating they are clueless about the alleged prostitution within the premises.

“We are currently investigating the murder of Sonali Phogat and the availability of drugs in Curlies. At the moment, we are unaware of the website advertisement for escort services. However, we will investigate this angle and take appropriate action against the shack and its owner separately. We do not want to confuse the present probe with the alleged sex trade until there's a link found subsequently,” an official said requesting anonymity.
