Claiming that one type of caps have become scarce in the State, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that “topis” from Delhi were being seen in some corners of the State.

It was an apparent reference to the Congress Seva Dal caps and the AAP topis, while addressing that inaugural function of the two-day Lukosthav-VII at Adarsh Gram in Amone-Poinguinim on Saturday.

Speaking further, Parrikar suggested to take the help of Ayush Minister Shripad Naik in seeking central help for preservation of forest produce and rich heritage of forest dwellers in the State.

Parrikar said he was willing to consider Navy experts based in neighbouring Karwar to impart training in skill development, provided there was willingness among residents of Canacona.

Downplaying the criticism that he was frequently shuttling between Delhi and Goa, Parrikar said, “Though I am based in Delhi, my eye will always be on Goa, right from Polem to Patradevi, no matter what others say.”

Earlier, six different personalities, including director of Animal Husbandry Santosh Vasant Dessai were felicitated by Parrikar.

Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said his aim to uplift the ST community by forming Adarsh Yuwa Sangh 23 years ago was slowly but certainly bearing fruits.

“My detractors may be trying to pull me down, but my efforts to work with the needy will never stop and will never go in vain,” he said.

Others present at the function included South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar, Janak Thikale (Retd Dir of Sports of Maharashtra State), BJP Chief Vinay Tendulkar, Ex-Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, ZP (Poinguinim) Dr Pushpa Aiya, Horticulture Dy Chairman Mahesh Naik, Sarpanchas Bhushan Prabhugaonkar (Loliem-Polem), Prashant Desai (Shristhal), Navneeta Naik Gaonkar (Agonda), Puno Gaonkar (Gaondongrim), Councillors Kishor Shet, Neeta Sameer Dessai, Hemant Naik Gaonkar and Daya Pagi.
