MARGAO: Mystery shrouds the disappearance of the bullet that had pierced the chest of deceased Swapnil Walke after he was shot at from close range inside the jewellery shop on Wednesday noon.
While the police have recovered the country-made pistol, a magazine, three live cartridges and an empty cartridge from the jewellery shop, sources informed that the bullet that was shot at the deceased has still not been traced.
The post mortem examination revealed a through-and-through bullet wound near the chest, indicating that the bullet had pierced through the body.
Police said the bullet was yet to be found, even though a police team, which had gone to the jewellery shop, again tried to recover the same. “Whether the bullet broke into small pieces or whether it hit something after it came out of the body is still a mystery", sources said, adding “the bullet must have fallen down when the victim was being carried to a clinic or the hospital”.
Deceased Swapnil was shot from point blank by one of the accused, as the bullet hit the left side of the chest, before it pierced through the body.
A crime branch officer, however, said that that non-recovery of the bullet will not prove fatal for investigations or in the court of law as there are other forensic aspects that would help in the investigations.
